The Full Story

Allen Lawhead, M.D.

Allen Lawhead is a physician leader and patient advocate committed to excellence in patient care and optimal health for all Americans.

He has been recognized as one of America's Top Physicians by Castle Connolly, Top Doctors USA, Super Doctors, The New York Times, and listed as a Top Doctor in Atlanta Magazine.

Dr. Lawhead completed medical school and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and completed his fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

He spent his career as a practicing Gynecologic Oncologist, Physician Leader, Clinical Scientific Researcher, and Healthcare Educator in Atlanta, Georgia. During that time he was a Clinical Faculty Member teaching Medical Students and Residents of the Emory University School of Medicine, The Medical College of Georgia, and Morehouse School of Medicine.

As a Clinician Scientist, Dr. Lawhead performed medical research and authored many medical publications including textbook chapters. His physician leadership roles included being Director of Gynecologic Oncology, Department Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Cancer Center Medical Director.

While practicing in Atlanta, he held staff positions at The Emory Clinic, Emory University, Grady Memorial, Crawford Long, Georgia Baptist, Atlanta Medical Center, Northlake Regional and Dekalb Medical Center Hospitals. His career highlight, however, was his busy, successful medical practice in which his women patients loved and trusted him.

He now lives in Statham, Georgia with his wife, Ronda, and is retired from the practice of medicine, enjoying his family — 3 children and their spouses, and ten grandchildren.

A constant factor during his retirement has been his work as a patient advocate and proponent of excellent patient care and optimal health for all Americans.

In his spare time, Dr. Lawhead is a vocalist and a musical performer on guitar, keyboards, saxophone, and harmonica.
